Australia ranks tenth in a new list of the world’s top migration countries compiled by the World Bank.

The report looks at migration trends since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic and found Australia’s migrant intake in 2021 was 117,929, compared with 235,860 in 2019.

However, Australia’s ranking on a per capita basis would be much higher.

And Australia rated fourth best country in the world with a 97.6 score out of 100 on an index based on adv agility, cultural influence, entrepreneurship, heritage, movers, open for business, power, quality of life and social purpose.

“Since the late 18th century, Australia has been influenced by British, Celtic and US culture. In recent decades, however, immigration from non-English-speaking nations – primarily from Asia – has altered the nation’s demographic profile and influenced its popular culture, the report says.

The report says migration has bounced back across the world in the wake of the pandemic.

“Global movement appears to be bouncing back following a disruption in migration tied to the COVID-19 pandemic, and many countries have managed both to draw in new residents and keep current ones at home,” it says.

United Nations world population data compiled by the World Bank paints a comprehensive picture of net migration in more than 200 countries and territories for which there is sufficient data.

The bank defines net migration as the difference between the number of immigrants and the number of emigrants, including citizens and noncitizens, in a given year.

The list encompasses the ten countries with the highest net migration totals in 2021, along with their 2019 numbers to reflect the impact of the pandemic, according to data from the UN and World Bank.

The top- rated migration country ion the US, which saw net migration of 561,580 in 2021, compared with 1,158,444 in 2019.

Number two was Russia with net migration in 2021 of 320,617 and 333,509 in 2019.

Third was Germany which saw net migration in 2021 of 312,735 and 360,560 in 2019.

Nepal was fourth with net migration in 2021 of 296,541 and 370,597 in 2019.

Spain ranked fifth with net migration in 2021 of 275,022 and 458,942 in 2019.

Syria was sixth with net migration in 2021 of 212,187 compared with 500,572 in 2019.

Colombia was seventh with net migration in 2021 of 211,978 395,803 in 2019.

The United Kingdom was eighth with net migration in of 202,027 in 2021 and 221,179 in 2019.

Canada came ninth with net migration in 2021 of 195,181 and 391,914 in 2019.
