Bold colours, mysterious imagery on show in migrant artist’s work

A stunning exhibition of paintings by Chinese-Australian artist Pei Wang, which range from vibrant still life to impressionist conceptual pieces, is currently on display at the Victorian Artists’ Society.

Titled ‘Perception and Metamorphosis’ in the Cato Gallery from 2 May until 27 May 2024 and the Mackley Members Room from 2 May until 27 May 2024.

Pei Wang, originally from Shanghai, China, currently resides in Melbourne. Her art studio is in the Dandenong Ranges.

She is a member of the Chinese Female Artists Association, the Victorian Artists Society, and the Australian New Art Alliance.

In the art industry, her oil paintings are renowned for their rich and bold colours, beautiful and mysterious imagery, and poetic grandeur.

Her works, including abstract series, spiritual imagery series, reed series, and persimmon series, have been merchants as wells as by cultural and artistic organisations in countries such as the United States, Germany, Canada, and Australia.

With 150 years of history, the Victorian Artists Society (VAS) remains one of Australia’s preeminent art institutions.

Established in 1870 by early impressionist painters, VAS is a society for art practitioners and lovers.

Membership is made up of people ranging from new hobbyists right through to very accomplished and awarded artists.

The VAS network is large and far reaching. The Heritage Victoria and National Trust listed building today houses a modern organisation with proud artistic origins. The studio hosts a wide variety of classes across a number of mediums.

The Society’s five beautifully restored galleries showcase member exhibitions as well as visiting artists and international art shows.
