2021 will see the return of Cultural Diversity Week after a hiatus last year caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, with celebrations taking place between March 21 and 28.

This year, the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) is asking Victorians to think about and ask ‘what multiculturalism could look like in 2030?’

The week will take the form of many community events, exhibitions, performances held across Victoria and presented through a hybrid of in-person and online events.

Highlights include the Curious Conversations lecture and Q&A series

The launch event is on March 22 in person and with live streaming. Second and third events will take place on March 23 and 26.

There will also be small performances around the CBD though Culture Break  initiative.

Nominations will open for the Victorian Refugee Awards and also the Multicultural Film Festival.

The signature Premier’s Gala Dinner will be held later in 2021, dependent on public health advice.

The VMC is asking communities how they plan to celebrate. Events can be submitted on the VMC’s events calendar.

Underpinning Cultural Diversity Week is the principle that Multiculturalism is a part of the Victorian identity, character and way of life and that cultural diversity has social, cultural and economic benefits.
