AMES volunteers were treated to the first performance of OPEN YOUR HEARTS – songs and stories of refugees at the Multicultural Hub on Monday June 16.

AMES students and a community guide told the stories of their journeys and challenges they still face here while accompanied by songs performed by local singers Cate Taylor and Nina Lim.

On Wednesday, June 18, Flagstaff students and teachers attended a follow up performance with overwhelmingly positive feedback.

”Oh, they are so brave”; ”very emotional and beautiful singing”; ”I understand more now about the refugees in my class”, were some of the comments from students.

The performance was created by Carmel Davies from AMES Flagstaff.

Teachers commented that OPEN YOUR HEARTS was: “fantastic. So inspiring and empowering for students, those listening as well as those performing”.
